What's on your to-do list?

We laughed, We cried

We kept doing things

That people denied


Some left us dissatisfied

Some gave us serenity

Some kept us dignified

Some made us feel pity


Of all the things we did

With vested interests in mind

We failed to take care

Of what we have

And made our eyes turn blind


We drafted our goals

In our daily to-do lists

We scraped through them

With turns and twists


They said, "You're alive

Only if you breathe."

But are we truly alive?

Just because we breathe?


We learnt to exhale

The Sound Of Silence

The sound of silence
screams at its loudest
when mind and heart
refuse to work in sync
when lips refuse to smile
when eyes refuse to blink.

The sound of silence
tears apart your eardrums
when your life seems running smoothly
but out of blue you get a jolt
and your heart gets ripped apart
by actions like a concealed thunderbolt.

The sound of silence
is caused by an obscured wound
you know that it exists
inside you in form of pain
but tears freeze in your eyes
like a land without rain.

The sound of silence
destroys what nothing else can
like making it impossible
to confide in someone you trusted
and your supposedly happy world
suddenly goes busted.

The sound of silence
ruptures and punctures your life
when endlessly you get stabbed
with the veil of smart lies
your body physically lives
but your soul everyday dies.

The sound of silence
wobbles apart your world
when you think you feel guilty
for all the wrong things you bore
all that you feel all time
your life is synonymous to a whore.

The sound of silence
akin to eating a forbidden fruit
or committing an unforgivable sin
which lets you neither die nor lets you live
like an invisible scar that can never be healed
which lets you neither smile nor lets you grieve.

Sleepless Nights (Sad Version)

For how many nights,
you want me to shed tears silently.
Imagine one sleepless night,
how it feels?
Answer me honestly

Eyes have swollen,
tears have frozen.
I wonder if you could
imagine one sleepless night
how it feels?...

How it feels
to be hopeless
how it feels
when life seems meaningless
how it feels...
When you cry yet
The world cannot imagine...

Yet...
the world cannot imagine
the sound of my silence
the visions of my blindness
as this was the world,
That you had created
While filling my empty void
During those days when we dated

Now those days are gone,
like a flower it is wilted
now it is me and a sleepless night,
crying in the dark all alone,
all I had was a candle...
Now even that is melted.

All I can do now
is do nothing...
except waiting
for a ray of hope
for a new dawn from rising!

Love... Rekindled (Retourne)

Opened up a frail heart to love
With eyes closing doors on despair
Dreaming of love to flow like stream
Leaving pains beyond existence.

With eyes closing doors on despair
Unspoken sound whispers me
Come, lets believe in love again
And its magic of healing pains.

Dreaming of love to flow like stream
Within a fraction of second
Pleasant thoughts run across my mind
Recreating glad fantasies.

Leaving pains beyond existence
And drown into ocean of bliss
Terminating all glum feelings
And rekindle lost love again.

A Retourne is a French poetry form wherein repetition is used, employed. It consist of four quatrains (four-line stanzas), with each line having eight syllables. The trick is though that the first stanza's second line must also be the second stanza's first line, the first stanza's third line is the third stanza's first, and the first stanza's fourth line is the fourth stanza's first. Retournes can but do not have to rhyme.

The Passion Of The Christ (Double Etheree)

Hail
The Man
The Master
Of the Mankind
Crucification
Was all He accepted
After a kiss by Judas
As a sign of his betrayal
He was stripped, flogged and mocked by the crowd
Denied thrice by His trusted aide Peter

Smiling, He suffered and died for Mankind
Preaching power of love, hope and faith
Act of Selflessness, forgiveness
Helping, forgiving sinners
Such was passion of Christ
Sacrificed His blood
To cleanse our souls
He showed way
To reach
God

About the poem:
I don't know much about Christianity because I follow Jainism. I was motivated to write this poem after watching the movie The Passion Of The Christ. Whatever I write about it, is definately not going to heal the wounds caused to Jesus by us. I hope this little poem could bring a change within ourselves.

An Impossible Find

Sitting aimlessly near the window panes
Familiar thoughts run across my mind
Tears being just a synonym to the outside rains
Joy seems to be just an impossible find.

Wondering anxiously about the nature's law
I seem to be blessed with a very selective mind
All that is traceable is fault and flaw
Good memories seem to be an impossible find.

Traumas given importance with faith at stake
Negativity all around cause eyes go blind
Hope being a treasure, difficult to rake
Happiness seems to be an impossible find.

Clouded by unpleasant memories that nag the brain
In the web of despair I get myself entwined
Making things complex, life does not seem the same
I guess a happy mind is an impossible find.

No Man's Land

Sounds of feuds, battle inside my mind
As I seek a shelter and a sense of tranquility
Countless emotions, I frantically unwind
Alas! I fight a lost battle to gain serenity.

In hunt for support, to win the missing trusts
I gamble out of luck with some harsh ploys
Feeling crumbled, as a dilapidated iron rusts
All my conscience screams is a defeated voice.

Compelled to live with tears and silent outbursts
I carry the 'loser' tag with plethora, as a brand
With none to support and safeguard my interests
I feel as a war-torn refugee on a no man's land.

The Little Princess

Crawling on your limbs to explore the world
You make me smile with every step you take
Your twinkling little eyes and hair uncurled
Naughty little princess you are as sweet as a cake.

Far from a distance when you look at me
You jump excitingly waiting for me to hold you
I look at your naughty face and smile with glee
As I crave to hold you and chase away my blues.

Quickly without notice you check out my pockets
And empty them up to find something useful
You scream if I deny and I give you chocolates
I like to pamper you and make your temper cool.

You identify me, now that you are one year old
You wait for me to play in my eveready arms
My priority being you as I put everything on hold
I like to bear your tantrums with no qualms.

You rule my small world, like a little princess
Keeping me prospered when you see me everytime
Dancing like a Gudiya (doll) you drive away my stress
For me you are nothing less than God divine.

My Birthday

This wasn't different from any ordinary day
The same wind that kissed me was blowing from bay
The same sun that smiled at me had risen from east
The same food that I would gulp was placed for feast.

People were in a hurry to complete their chores
While winter birds were fluttering over the sea shores
In a hurry, in a jiffy I left for my job
Only to be greeted with slangs by the mob.

It was same old fun with colleagues out there
And the evening passed away in despair
I came back home with tiredness and stress
And went for a bath to become cool and fresh.

As I sat on my desk to pen down my thoughts
I thought about my fights, I thought about applauds
Suddenly my sight went where the calendar laid
And I realised that it was my birthday....

Sometimes I wonder, if I could just

The Last Kiss (A Soldier's Letter Before War)

Ceaselessly guarding your respect and esteem
I wait for endless chances to serve you
O! Motherland, my blood drops scream
To pay your every debt and due.

Mulling each day as my life's last day
I pen down this letter as my last
Sleeping in your womb is what I pray
Everytime I defend and keep your honour chaste.

All I ask is to carry this last message
To all the beloved people in my life
Kisses is what you shall find in this page
And a bid to avoid conflict and strife.

Starting this note for my beloved parents
I ask you to kiss their holy feet
Who bore my wishes, my ire and rants
Who taught me to fight rather than retreat.

I ask you to kiss my fellow kith and kin
Teaching them a lesson of brotherhood
Praying endlessly for their effortless win
I ask them to avoid hatred and feud.

O! Motherland, please kiss my children
Who may lose the shadow of mine
The gloom of losing me shouldn't rob their fun
Please bless them this patriotic feeling divine.

A special message and a kiss to my better half
Who showered me with support through thick and thin
Chase away her sorrows and make her laugh

Mona Lisa - A Secret

Centuries pass away, a mystery prevails
Hidden behind the smile, angst and travails
A temptress garnished, as an apparel on wall
Confounding onlookers, enthralling all.

Charismatic inviting face, to falsify the preys
Sitting standstill, putting million heartbeats on race
Plying out mystic eyes, as a drape to cover
Concealing a hidden secret of an admirer, a lover

A wife, a flame, a mistress, a myth or a fact
Question left unanswered, the secret remains intact
A hag foreseeing a doom or a damsel in distress
Revealing the real her, with futile attempts endless.

Asking timeworn questions, through the sound of silence
Compelling the admirer, to lose out his sense.
Cryptic puzzles hiding, the reason behind the genesis
The mystery remains unsolved, she blows a final kiss.

The idea for this poem came while watching the painting of Mona Lisa. Just a bit about this poem:

Mona Lisa is the famous painting created by the great Leonardo da Vinci. Centuries ago, the grandmaster created her with a mystery to be solved. The most common mystery that remains unanswered is about her smile that seems to hide her agony. The seductress hangs decoratively on the wall like an ormament. Her portrait hexes the people who look at her and admire her.

Her face influences a lot of people as a hunter lures a prey. She sits out lifeless but millions of heartbeats race who cherish her. Her magnetic and mystical eyes look like a curtain which conceals the secret relationship between her and da Vinci.

Since centuries, different myths have been heard about her identity. Some say that she was da Vinci's wife, some say she was the love of his life and rest tried to malign her by calling her a mistress. Some mistook her to be a witch who practised occult and foresee doom while others felt she was just a damsel in distress. Inspite of all explanations, her real identity still remains a mystery.

Her silent portrait and her smile asks the question to those who have seen her, like she has done since centuries. She compels the looker to find out her real identity and the reason behind her creation. Knowing that it will never be solved she bids adieu to her admirer.

(Personally I feel that the smile on her face indicates her triumph over keeping the centuries old secret intact.)

The more I chase you, faraway you go
As an oasis in the desert, as a mirage.

If you are an illusion, I pray to you

A Spoonful Of Bitter Thanks

That episode still flashes in mind
When you first showed me your face
You hunted for a prey who looked kind
To loot and frisk away at faster pace.

You made yourself look as awful
As a wretched soul could ever be
Your complete act made me a fool
I could find a dumb ass in me.

You stopped my way and asked for aid
By faking and feigning your injuries
Pitifully I shelled out money and you said
"May God bless and free you from all worries."

I smiled at myself thinking of the deed
The good act that I did by helping you
Did you genuinely need it or was it your greed
That you backstabbed me to pay my due?

How easily you cashed on me for your cocaine
Medicine was just an excuse to fool me
I helped you foolishly, sympathizing your pain
Your lust for alcohol jumped with glee.

My mind thought of confronting you
I wanted to abuse and vent my spleen
How could you dupe and make me rue
When my help for you was genuine?

You taught me SOMETIMES IT'S NOT WORTH HELPING
I learnt this lesson by one of your wicked pranks

This one's a song written by me for one of my friend's play. I added it after getting positive feedbacks for this one. The plot of the play goes this way that a couple fall in love and then drift apart because of misunderstandings. The girl gets over the relationship as if nothing was cooking between them, but the guy takes it badly as he simply cant get over his love. So the guy sings this song to know how does get going in life... Now that they have FALLEN APART !!!

A Lear In Love

Often you make me wonder
What makes me think of you?
You seem to be like a commoner
But still you are one amongst the few.

An unknown aura you spread around
Makes me, almost, feel like a wisp.
I stammer, I stutter to talk to you
At a glimpse of yours, I suffer from lisp.

Like a sorceress, you cast a spell
You dent my ego by your simplicity
Enchanted by an optimistic charm
I feel bewitched by your tender beauty.

Art thou a celestial being? Or a poet's delight?
A Lear within me, creates a fuss
Are you my infatuation, O Aphrodite?
Or are you my Goddess of love, Venus?
